S&w 15-22 Review - Back in December, I had the opportunity to tell you about Smith & Wesson's newest addition to the M&P15-22 firearms line, the M&P15-22 Pistol. This gun technically existed before it was discontinued. The difference is that the old version did not have a pistol grip, while the new one has the SB Tactical SBA3 adjustable grip. I recently purchased a M&P15-22 pistol and am pleased to present you with my full review. Let's dive down the rabbit hole!
The Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 pistol comes in an S&W cardboard box lined with foam. Supplied with a 25-round magazine, manual, warranty information, chamber flag and lock cable. Unfortunately, I lost the box, so I don't have a photo of the box as usual, so I'm sorry.

The MSRP for the Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 pistol is $504. I say "pretty much" because these weapons work well (see the "Range" section for more details) and frankly, if you're not familiar with the M&P15-22 series, they're almost entirely made of polymer, except for a very important parts. You saw the specs above, but Smith & Wesson describes them in more detail below:

The range of the Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 pistol was good. I say this because when it comes to any firearm made for .22 rimfire, they tend to be relatively inconsistent. I have fired about 350 rounds with a Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 pistol and had no failures or malfunctions. This pistol works great and I really enjoy playing with it. I ran the same torture test as any 22 I review and own. I use different grits and even dirty old ammo just to see if anything sticks.
A very cool aspect of the Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 pistol is that the muzzle cage unscrews easily, and I attached my Dead Air Mask HD 22 silencer. This silenced thing is great, although a bit stronger than you would prefer. since the length of the barrel does not allow high-velocity projectiles to maintain a lower speed. I used two subsonic ammo magazines to see the difference, and while they were much quieter, I have to admit that in the current state of the world, I skimp a bit on subsonic ammo. It's worth it if you decide to shoot that way! No performance issues so far.

If you were thinking about getting an AR-style 22 and wanted something small and compact for training, practice, LARP, or just for fun, I would recommend this gun. The only potential downside I see with this is that it's more likely to break if you're rough with it. By no means am I saying that he seemed flimsy, because he certainly wasn't. Damn, I wouldn't have bought it if I thought I could break it. I only see this thing crack or break if it is forced to bend or subjected to some sort of extreme pressure.
The MSRP is very fair, as I said above, and is in the same range as its rifle counterpart if that suits your style more. Any extra money you save could be spent on ammo, optics, slings, or even a silencer. This is a purchase I don't regret and I hope others have the same positive experience with their purchase as I did! I'm so glad they brought it back the way they did.

I thought it would be great to train with the M&P 15-22 because of the similarities between the two. I also thought it would be a great learning tool for my kids on the road. I didn't have too many S&W firearms, I'm disappointed. Looking back on this one, it didn't disappoint either.
Unpacking the 15-22, I found a well-packed padded rifle holster, three 25-round magazines, and a pistol. Unlike other .22 LR AR variants I've fired, the M&P 15-22 doesn't look or feel cheap despite the polymer top and bottom.
A good amount of factory grease was applied and the finish was flawless. The fact that it was packed in a padded case and then in a shipping box made everything neat and secure. In terms of packaging and first impressions, there was nothing to complain about.
I won't bore you with all the specs, but I would like to talk about some of the features you can get from 15-22. You can order several different sub-model packages with different optics packages, supported features and different color options.
M&p 15 22: Upgrade It With The Right Accessories
The one I chose looked like one of the most popular models I've seen. He had fewer options, but the price was lower. I prefer to spend less up front. Given my past history, I would probably still change some parts and add new ones.
My Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 came with Magpul MBUS flip-up front sights and rear sights with plenty of room to mount an optic between them. I like to have a folding scope as a fallback in case the optics fail. The M&P 15-22 is also equipped with the Magpul M-Lok system, which makes it easy to attach accessories to the handguard.
A simple six-position stock was attached, but it does the job and is much preferable to a fixed stock in my opinion. If you decide to replace any part, there are plenty to choose from on the market. Most parts such as stocks, grips, lights, etc. that fit standard AR-15s also fit 15-22s.
Over the last couple of rides I've shot 200 rounds of CCI Standard Velocity with a 40 grain bullet and 200 rounds of Winchester White Box hollow points with a 36 grain bullet through a M&P 15-22. Surprisingly, the only issues I had were with CCI cartridges, which usually work better with my other .22 caliber cartridges.

I saw six submission errors and one extraction error. The feed failures were all with the same magazine. Once I changed magazines, I didn't see another one for the next hundred rounds. I will attribute these IBTs to this particular journal.
The first group out of the box may have been low, but remained relatively tight. It only took a quick scope adjustment to fix it and everything went smoothly.
The accuracy is exactly as I thought, at least after adjusting the scope. The first 25 shots at 25 yards ended low, but were centered and hit a fist-sized group. After a few quick tweaks, I was able to shrink my groups down to the size of a golf ball and hit six-inch gongs at 100 yards with no problem. Due to the low recoil level, fast follow-up shots remained right on target.
15-22 offers excellent value for money. Get a reliable and accurate rifle with quality features and lifetime service from Smith & Wesson at an affordable price. Whether you own a standard AR-15 or not, this rifle is perfect for practice and plinking.
