Glock 21 Gen 4 - These include the Glock Model 20 10mm and Glock Model 21 .45 ACP pistols. Introduced in 1990, the Model 21 in .45 ACP competes with other large-caliber pistols in police service. Americans demand more punch in their defensive weapons, and my personal opinion on this is entirely American.
The pistol was well received. Good reliability and accuracy are good selling points. Another advantage is that the magazine holds 13 rounds of .45 ACP, giving the pistol a total capacity of 14 rounds.

The downside to the pistol is its size. Shooters with small hands and long fingers often do well with the Glock 21, but training and familiarity with the type is important. The pistol is large but fairly lightweight due to its polymer frame.

Looking at the full picture, the Glock packs a lot of power into a lightweight package. For example, a Colt 1911 Government model of the same caliber weighs 39 ounces. The current 9mm Beretta 92 pistol weighs 35 ounces and holds 15 less effective 9mm cartridges.
Another advantage of the Glock is its simplicity. Unlike double-action, first-hand pistols, which require you to learn how to fire double-action and single-shots, the safety action's design provides only one trigger action to learn. There are no passive safety devices.
Holding the trigger is not a real safety device. The fall safety device is designed to prevent inertia from moving the trigger when the pistol is dropped. Engaging the Glock trigger safety slide puts the trigger forward under pressure. The striker or firing pin is partially cocked at that point. Continuing to pull the trigger pushes the striker backwards, breaks against the pressure of the spring, and flies forward to fire the pistol. When the slide retracts, the action is partially primed and the pistol can be fired with another short trigger pull.
Glock safety measures have proven to be reliable in practice and offer quick-learn triggers. There is no passive safety, but the real safety is between the ears, and Glock shooters must understand how to remove their fingers from the trigger until they are ready to fire.

The Glock Model 21 has proven to be just as reliable as other Glock pistols, meaning that reliability is at a high level. Compared to other .45 ACP pistols, the Glock Model 21 offers average felt recoil. Despite its light weight, the polymer frame allows for some recoil, and the large grip distributes recoil to the palm. The Glock Model 21 is one of the lightest revolver pistols with .45 ACP.
Combined with a lower bullet than the others, the result is a more controllable and accurate pistol in combat shooting. The Glock Model 21 is also one of the most accurate Glock pistols. Some Glocks have poor accuracy, and the Model 21 often produces excellent results.
As with all high-quality pistols, the Glock Model 21 works better with one type of ammo than another, but service pistols are generally more accurate. Cycle stability is good for all types of ammunition. +P ammo is not recommended for several reasons.
Many people claim that the pistol pictured was one of the first Glock Model 21s. The latest version has a much improved finger grooved handle. The newer pistol has interchangeable grips and is more accurate than my original pistol.

Similarly, the older Model 21 is still available. We recommend that you look for the latest version. I've never had a bad M21, newer is better.
When testing the Glock Model 21 used for this feature, I put it in a Don Hume service grade finger break holster. A great all-around design with a good balance of speed and grip.
The Glock pistol pictured has fired thousands of rounds over its lifetime. For the sake of this review, we fired with a variety of useful ammunition.
