Security-9 Ruger Review - Sturm, Ruger & Company began producing semi-automatic pistols in .22LR caliber. In 1985 they began making the Ruger P85, a large double action/single action 9mm pistol. Ruger continued to produce that pistol in various calibers until 2004 when the line was discontinued In 2009, Ruger re-entered the centerfire pistol market with the polymer-framed, attack-fire SR Series, a slim double-stack pistol that re-established Ruger as a player in the defensive pistol market.
In 2018, Ruger came out with another centerfire polymer pistol, the Ruger Security 9. The Security 9 is a full-sized, single-action, hammer-fire 9mm pistol that packs a lot of features into a pistol that is competitively priced. Retail price. The Ruger Security 9 Compact model, launched in 2019, packs these features into a small, easy-to-carry package.

The Ruger Security 9 Compact uses a scaled-down version of the single-action firing mechanism found in another Ruger, the LCP. The ultra-compact .380 ACP LCP is one of America's best-selling pistols, and using that trigger group in a larger pistol makes a lot of sense. Tried and tested fire management groups, modern manufacturing techniques and extensive use of polymers in safety 9 give it an attractive price. The new Security 9 Compact looks like it might just continue Ruger's reputation for making quality guns.
Ruger Security 9 9mm Semi Automatic Pistol 3825
The Security 9 Compact is, well, compact Smaller than a Glock 19, yet larger than a Sig P365 or similar single stack pistol, it's a great size for someone looking for an everyday rifle. The pistol comes with three magazines, two 10-round 9mm magazines and a 15-round magazine, which is not common these days. The bottom of the 15 round magazine has a sleeve that allows you to grip the entire firing range with your hand. Ten rounds of newspaper was a bit small for me I found that when I was using a 10 round magazine my little finger and half of my ring finger were hanging under the gun. If anyone from Ruger is reading this, a 12 round magazine that is slightly longer than the standard 10 round magazine, but adds two more rounds to the magazine, would be a good idea for this gun.
Security 9 Compact looks great out of the box The sights on the pistol are the front sight, rear sight "U" which will be instantly recognizable to any Glock owner out there. There is a short length of Picatinny rail in front of the trigger so you can mount a light, laser or other accessory. The slide has serrations on the front and back to aid in the manipulation of the slide. Safety The 9 Compact has a manual, frame-mounted safety This is not a feature I usually like on a defensive carry gun But given our gun's light trigger weight (just under five pounds in our testing) and short trigger travel, a manual safety makes a lot of sense.
In addition to the frame-mounted manual safety, the Ruger Security 9 Compact has a magazine isolation safety. Magazine Disengagement Prevents the gun from firing unless a magazine is loaded The feature is also available on pistols other than the Safety 9 family The idea is that this helps prevent accidental discharge by blocking the trigger when there is no magazine in the gun. There are some people who find a journal break useful I'm not one of them and I'd rather follow the four rules of gun safety than rely on mechanical devices to keep me safe.
With its light, short trigger and the comfortable feel of the fifteen-round magazine, the Ruger Security 9 compact made shooting at the range a lot of fun. The frame-mounted safety was easy to engage when needed, and the other controls were right where you'd expect. The gun certainly doesn't feel like a gun with an MSRP of $379 Instead it felt and shot like a gun that cost hundreds of dollars more

To test the accuracy of the Security 9 Compact, we fired four to five rounds of three different types of ammunition at a target 15 meters away. The gun performed fairly well, but the gun's short sighting affair opened groups up a bit more than the larger guns However, this gun is not designed for one-hole range groups, and the results we got were good for defensive purposes.

We shot a total of 300 rounds through the Safety 9 Compact from various manufacturers with various bullet weights and bullet types. Gun fired all rounds without test In our testing it had no problem feeding jacketed hollowpoints, full-metal jacketed rounds, or any other bullet style.
The Ruger Security 9 stands out in the confusing world of compact defense firearms. Small enough to carry almost every day, it still holds 9 rounds of 15 rounds and the confidence of the Ruger brand. Of course, this is a new gun on the market, so the choice of holsters and accessories is a bit limited, but it is growing. My evaluation of the Security-9 was brief, but insightful, and involved a few hundred cartridges. Frame glass filled nylon These have proven to be durable and allow the gun to be produced economically The grip is textured for better adhesion and does not cause any problems when loading the +P. Slides are nicely machined with interesting content The fore and aft have tension serrations, which is unusual in a gun in this price range The straight teeth are beautifully burnished, as is the Kimber SAS pistol treatment
The slide is steel and will take more shooting than you or I will ever give it, and rarely shows signs of wear. The sights are of excellent design for combat shooting and are also suitable for accurate fire at 25 yards or more. I have one of the original LCP pistols, and it's not a bad gun at all However, LCP II's trigger function is very easy to use The Safety-9 also uses this safety action system, which is a single-action trigger with a lever safety built into the trigger face.
